Over the Chrismas Holidays we traveled by Glacier Express from Andermatt to Sedrun and back.
On this scenic route the train climbs the Oberalppass, a mounatin pass connecting the canton of Uri with the canton of Grisons. Climbing up to more than 2'000 metres and enjoying breathaking views while sitting comfortably in the train is amazing.
The Glacier Express is an epress train that connects Zermatt and St. Moritz in the heart of the Swiss alps. Through it's slow journey it climbs noumerous mountains, displays various valleys and offers you a comfortable, warm ride with breathtaking views over the Swiss mountainous countryside.
Because the train must climb mountains, it uses cogged wheels in the railway in order to be able to climb such steep hills.
So, not only for nature, mountain and photography enthusiasts it's a must, but also for all the tech and train fans it's fascinating to whitness.
Let me tell you; This must be on your travel bucket list if your traveling through the alps! Even for me, as a Swiss native, I feel this magical experience every single time I travel by this train!
