I went on a cruise...

Yes, I went on a cruise for the first time in my life. I liked it and yet I hate myself for it. I’m still torn apart.

We started in the Port of Miami, cruised around in the Caribbean for a week until we returned to Miami.

We lived in a “town” of more than 5000 guests on the sea for a week. The best food, entertainment and halls as impressive as small castles. Pools on different decks, a glassed bridge and a cabin with balcony and sea view. We lived there in paradise, never out of options for entertainment, never hungry, never ran out of things to do in this huge ship if we wanted.

We went on land excursions in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico. We went horseback riding at the most beautiful beaches and went on cool Jeep and island tours. We loved it, and yet we somehow wanted to leave that ship.

Why? First, I’m Swiss (we don’t have a sea), I need some land under my feet. No, but all jokes aside:

I mainly got bored after a while. I’m not that type of person to sit for an entire day in the casino, in a theater or a bar. I'm not that person that is sunbathing all day at the pool. I want to go out and explore, which you obviously can’t do in the middle of the ocean.

Ok, but why do I hate myself for going on a cruise?

Well, we lived in luxury whereas other people dream to have that much food in excess.

We polluted the sea and air with that massive, energy wasting ship.

It was a new ship and very clean, they promoted. But honestly, how can a moving city in the middle of the sea with so much entertainment and food not be spending excessively energy?

And we forgot about how other people had to work hard and live in much worse conditions than we did when visiting places where we stopped; totally overcrowded with ignorant tourists that are here just for entertainment and not for culture and learning respectfully about the country they were in. In all of the ports the same souvenir shops, diamond and duty free shops.

Thats why I get to the final question: Would I do it again?

Yes, I if you have enough time on land for you to explore on your own, I will.

Should I do it again? Probably not...
